At AL Foundation we believe in helping bright young leaders to pursue their academic dreams.
The AL Foundation Bursary Programme aims to fund academically deserving students who do not have the financial means to study fulltime towards a first undergraduate degree or diploma at any accredited African private/public university or university of technology. Bursaries are awarded to address scarce and future skill requirements in Africa.
- We consider applications from South Africa and neighboring countries.
- You must have a proven financial need, supported by household income.
- Past academic results:
A minimum academic average of 65% in the year that you are applying for the AL Foundation bursary, i.e. in grade 12 or at university level.
A minimum academic average of 65% for the required subjects aligned to the qualification you plan to study at university. - You must have successfully obtained admission approval to any accredited public university or university of technology for the undergraduate qualification you plan to study.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS IN SUPPORT OF YOUR APPLICATION
- A certified copy of your identity document or passport.
- Your most recent academic transcript:
Grade 11 end-year results, as well as mid-year results if you are currently in grade 12.
Grade 12 end-year results as well as mid-year results if you are currently in your first year at university.
Your last academic year results as well as your current mid-year results if you are currently in your second or third year at university.
Fees quotation/invoices/statements for the year of study. - Curriculum Vitae.
- Motivational letter.
THE APPLICATION AND SCREENING PROCESS
We accept applications via email supplied below. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
Bursary applications are screened against the AL Foundation Bursary selection criteria to shortlist applicants.
THE PARENTS/LEGAL GUARDIANS OF SHORTLISTED APPLICANTS WILL BE REQUESTED TO DO THE FOLLOWING:
Supply written consent that they understand that personal information will be requested and given to third parties who will help the AL Foundation with the process.
Supply certified copies of the following:
a) Identity documents.
b) Certified or official copy of recent salary slip, letter of employment, not older than three months, for each parent or guardian.
c) Proof of income, bond statement and council rates accounts (not older than three months) if parent or guardian are informal traders or hawkers.
d) Copy of an official pension slip or bank statement if parent or guardian receives income such as pension/grant/maintenance/rental/interest from investment (not older than three months).
e) Copies of divorce certificates, where applicable.
f) Copies of death certificates, where applicable.
g) Police affidavit (in a case where a guardian is unemployed).
h) Proof of residential address (bills or accounts letter).
ON COMPLETION OF THE DOCUMENT REVIEW PROCESS, SHORTLISTED APPLICANTS WILL BE REQUESTED TO DO THE FOLLOWING:
- Participate in psychometric and other assessments.
- Attend an interview.
When the screening process is completed, the applications of eligible students together with their screening results are presented to the AL Foundation Board for review. Bursaries are awarded at the sole decision of the board.
Applicants will be notified via email when the process is completed.
